Webster City is located in the north central part of Iowa. It has two nicknames..The first is ”Main Street U.S.A.” which was coined by the Webster City Chamber of Commerce back in the 1940s. “Boone River Country” is because of the Boone River that is located in the eastern part of the city .
Webster City’s estimated population as of 2015 is at 7,814 residents. The city is home of major companies including Van Diest Supply Company,Vantec, Mary Ann’s Specialty Foods, Webster City Custom Meats, and Tasler,Incorporated. The top industries are advanced manufacturing, plastics manufacturing, food processing, agricultural related products and distribution. A new industry, Vero Blue Farms is scheduled to open soon with its aquaculture operation. Another major industry, Prestage Foods of Iowa will be opening a pork processing plant near Eagle Grove which is expected to employ 1,000 people in the fall of 2018.
Webster City is home of the Hamilton County Speedway with racing action every Saturday night during the spring and summer months. The Hamilton County Fair is held each July at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The Doodlebug Reunion is held each September as a way to celebrate the Doodlebugs manufactured by Beam Manufacturing in the 1940s. The JunqueFest in Webster City draws a huge attendance each Memorial Day weekend.
Recreational opportunities include Briggs Woods Park with its lake, golf course and camping facilities. Construction on a new events center is to begin soon at Briggs Woods Park. Other recreation areas include Fuller Hall, the Outdoor Swimming Pool, Twin Parks, Wilson Brewer Park, Kendall Young Park,Lions Stafford Park,Nokomis Park-Middleton Sports Complex,Riverside Park, Wehrheim Park and Brewer Creek Park. There is also the 5.7 mile Boone River Recreational Trail
Some of the expansion projects in the community in recent years include Van Diest Medical Center and the Webster City High School Competition Gym. There are educational opportunities including the Webster City Public Schools, St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and the Webster City campus of Iowa Central Community College.
